AMD is expected to launch its second generation Ryzen Threadripper processors for the enthusiast market from one day to the next, and it seems that at least one retailer is eager to start the party. Over in Canada, an online computer and electronics store briefly posted a listing for a 2990X Threadripper processor with a asking price of $ 2,399 CAD (about US $ 1,850)
The Threadripper 2990X will be AMD's next flagship chip in the high-end office (HEDT) category. Although the model's name is not yet official, AMD told Computex last month that it was going to release a 32-core / 64-threaded Threadripper chip based on its Zen + 12-nanometer architecture, and that its second generation of Threadripper track for a launch in the third quarter, in which we are now.

So the specifications are not really in question. However, the brief appearance of the Threadripper 2990X at Canada Computers revealed some other elements, such as the model number (YD299XAZAFWOF), the total amount of cache (80 MB) and the TDP (250 W). And of course the price, although we are a little less confident than the rest of the information.

The listing no longer appears in the retailer's website, but it has not disappeared before being noticed and typed on the screen, as shown above. The price you see is in Canadian currency; it converts to about 1,850 US dollars. That's almost double what the 1950X Threadripper has done ($ 999), but it also has twice as many physical kernels and threads to run on workloads.

All these cores come with four 8-core Ryzen matrices. -package, connected to the Infinity fabric of AMD. It should also be noted that the next batch of Threadripper processors will retain its compatibility with the TR4 socket, so existing owners should be able to update their existing motherboards (after a BIOS update, of course).
