The DJI Osmo Pocket is a very small, super stable 4K camera

Aspiring filmmakers and Instagram influencers will probably love Osmo Pocket. This new DJI camera system records a 4K video and has a three-axis gimbal attached to a small cigar-sized handle. It's adorable.

The Osmo pocket also seems a little weird. According to DJI, this is not an action camera, but a motionless camera like the Osmo, which supports several camera models from the DJI Zenmuse range. The Oslo pocket is a bit of both, and extreme portability seems to differentiate the device from anything that exists on the market.

This thing is alluring tiny. The Osmo Pocket uses an updated version of the camera visible on the DJI Mavic Air, featuring a 1 / 2.3-inch sensor taking 12 megapixel photos and recording 4K videos at 60 frames per second. second. There is even a nice little one-inch screen on the handle, as well as a few buttons allowing you to use the Osmo Pocket all by itself.

You can also connect a smartphone on one side of it to get a bigger screen, as well as additional features for the camera via a new application called DJI Mimo. DJI also offers a multitude of different accessories: an accessory holder, a waterproof case, a wireless module, a control wheel, a set of ND filters, an extension rod, a case loading, etc. If you want to trick this thing, you can!

The corresponding software seems a bit too good to be true. Or at the very least, it sounds incredibly complex for such a small camera system. Like new DJI drones, the Osmo Pocket features intelligent tracking features, such as ActiveTrack, which automatically tracks moving subjects, and FaceTrack, which recognizes faces and keeps them centered in the frame. The camera also facilitates the making of timelapse videos as well as DJI's Motionlapse video signature, which adds a motion element to a traditional timelapse video. Other capabilities include an FPV mode that disengages the gimbal for a more realistic perspective and some panoramic modes for panoramic images.

Although we had a few minutes to try the DJO Osmo Pocket before the official announcement, we have not seen many of these features in action yet. It's really very small and very neat. But in many ways, it seems that the Osmo Pocket offers great promise in a small package, so much so that all these cinematic magic tricks might not be as easy to achieve in practice. Once again, DJI has a proven track record of innovation in the field of gimballed cameras, especially those on its drones. If the Osmo Pocket is that a Mavic Air camera on stick, it's maybe awesome! We will, however, reserve our judgments for a full review.
