Authorities responded to a call for shots fired at a house in southwestern Atlanta. A man suffering multiple gunshot wounds in an open garage was found in a garage, the Atlanta police department said in a statement. The victim, whom the police did not identify, was chatting in the alley with another man when the two men started to argue and the suspect fired on the victim several times, the police said. .
The suspect left the scene in a car, the police said.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner's office identified the victim as 37-year-old Sutton Tennyson.
On Sunday, Simmons posted on Instagram a video and a photo honoring Tennyson.
"Thank you for leaving behind my best present, I'm in pain, I'm numb, thanks for the flow of love," she reads in her message. "I can not believe I'm even saying Rest In Peace Sutton, I promise to hold SJ back in all the ways I promise."
Simmons also posted a video of his son watching videos of his father.
"Reflective", read his post. "He does not stop replaying at RIP Sutton."
Simmons' brothers and sisters also shared their condolences on social media. Her sister, Vanessa Simmons, said that she was "literally short of words, my heart breaks for my sister and my nephew … RIP Sutton."
