The Fighter's wife steals the show on Ninja Warrior

When I look at Ninja Warrior, I find that it is virtually impossible to relate to any of the candidates.

They are torn, I am not.

They are stupidly fit, I am not.

The majority of them overcame horrific injuries or traumatic experiences in their past. I had a paper cut once but it healed quickly enough and I rarely have nightmares about it.

And the Ninja are able to conquer the difficult hurdles of the show while I'm still scared to jump into the SkyZone's foam pit.

But everything changed during the first episode of Warrior Ninja season 2 last night. Finally, there was someone in the show that I could relate to. Her name, ladies and gentlemen, is Anne.

During the background package on Ian Newland aka Pa Rambo, we had a glimpse at the back of the 64 year old yard at his Sunshine Coast home where he built his own training course Ninja Warrior .

The grandpa buff's sight swinging effortlessly across the monkey bars was impressive, but the camera then shifted to his wife, Anne.

She was there, sitting on a deck chair watching her man train while she sipped a glbad of champagne.

 Iconic.

Emblematic.

While he was sweating, she was sipping, and sometimes she was shouting inspiring comments like "continuous" and "well done".

I am not ashamed to say it; I am Anne.

Desperate to learn more about this Australian legend, I caught up with Anne and Ian after the episode of Ninja Warrior was aired, and Ian explained that it was the his wife's suggestion that he leave in the show.

"I installed a full-weight gym in my garage and I did five years of body-building at home for six days a week," said the former gymnastic champion.

"I found all my strength and I was fit enough and healthy and as I watched Ninja Warrior [season one] I thought," These guys are all wrong they are not swaying properly.

"I said aloud:" I could probably do that. "And my wife said," Well, why do not you? "

This is Anne, tell him to put up or shut up!

For a producer Ninja Warrior an application of a 64-year-old man like Ian is a gift from the gods and the aging athlete quickly clinched a spot on the show.

But, as Ian explained, Anne was less than enthusiastic about the successful application of her husband when she discovered that he was planning to build a Ninja clbad in their garden.

"Oh yeah, that was a sore spot," Ian says.

 & # 39; You are well, darl. & # 39; "Title =" You're fine, darl. " "Data-largeimg =" https://media.apnarm.net.au/media/images/2018/07/08/imagev1d5926a335120bf9476fe463b4314339f-lccwf8g4gvadm9vokq2_ct677x380.jpg "/>

" Once I was accepted, I thought, "Damn it, I'd better pull my finger out and do some training." I just started building basic monkey bars at the back of the house and it grew from there and it keeps growing. "

According to Anne, she knew nothing of Ian's plans for the backyard clbad until she returned from work one afternoon.

"He had already started to build it," says Anne. "I cracked it of course."

But Anne managed to use the backyard court as a currency of exchange.

"We compromised ourselves and made things happen around the house I wanted to do," she said.

"We have a new kitchen, I made it work on it … so everything is fine now."

Part of the deal is that Ian must also keep the refrigerator filled with a few bottles of Anne's favorite beverages.

"I love the beautiful bubbles as long as it's cold," she says. "It does not have to be upscale, all we have."

Ian recently installed a shadecloth for Anne in the garden and added new chairs and a table for her.

"I'm going to sit at the back and watch him work on the equipment and he will say often:" Do you have anything better to do than to to drink while I'm training? " Anne laughed. .

Ian failed to qualify for the semifinals of Ninja Warrior but he swore that he would come back.

"I want to be the oldest player of a show from 1945 to 0000 Ninja Warrior anywhere in the world to finish [finish the course] a qualifying round," he said. declared. "I want this record."

And you can bet that Anne (and a bottle of champagne) will be at her side all the way.
