The eighth-generation sports car debuts in LA with a new look, more power and more technology.
Porsche unveiled the new & # 39; 992 & # 39; 911 sports car for the Los Angeles Lounge this week, from $ 265,000 before the costs on the road when he gets down under in the second quarter of 2019.
Although it is not very different from the model that it replaces (no surprises out there), the 2019 Porsche 911 offers full upgrades of its available technology catalog, a revised engine for models Carrera S and an all-aluminum body structure.
At launch there is just the Carrera S and Carrera 4S, both powered by an improved version of the outgoing generation 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six. The power has increased to 331kW (450hp), 22kW on the previous Carrera S.
Porsche says Carrera S rear drivetrain will increase to 100 km / h 3.7 seconds, while the Carrera 4S AWD completes the dashboard by 3.6 seconds – 0.4 seconds faster than the old version. By opting for the Sports Chrono group, you improve both beats by 0.2 seconds.
On the outside, the new 911 is distinguished by a wider body (45 mm front), recessed door handles, new LED headlights, vertical hood lines reminiscent of the first generation of the 911 and a revised rear design.
At the rear, LED taillights are centrally connected by an "elegant light bar", wider hips that are now constant in all variants and a larger rear spoiler with variable positions.
The rear bumper is also much stockier than before, while the larger exhaust outlets are located on either side of the license plate bracket.
Significant changes have also been made to the interior (see above), including straighter lines, recessed instruments and a new 10.9-inch Porsche Communication Management (PCM) infotainment system. complemented by touch buttons on the center console.
Before the driver, the central rev counter remains, but is now flanked by two frameless free-form screens that provide additional content.
Standard features include browsing the Internet and various features of the Porsche Connect Plus catalog.
Porsche offers three new support features that will be available on the new 911: wet mode, brake badist and badistance, as well as the night vision badistance system.
The first is a standard inclusion on the Carrera S and 4S and is dubbed a "world first" by the German brand. It detects water on the road and adapts control systems accordingly while alerting the driver of changes.
The brake and warning badistance system also complements the new wet mode of the safety suite, also standard, and speaks Porsche for autonomous emergency braking.
Finally, the new 911 will be available as an option with Night Vision Assist, which includes a forward-facing thermal imaging camera for enhanced vision at the front of the vehicle, in low-light conditions.
