Hugh Bowman told the stewards that his wife, Christine, had fallen ill and needed medical attention, forcing him to leave Flemington on Saturday to give up the ride on favorite Avilius, favorite of the Australian Cup.

"Bowman has confirmed that his wife, Christine, had fallen ill yesterday and needed medical attention," reads in the report of the RV stewards, distributed on this occasion.

"After being informed, Bowman asked the RV stewards and gave them permission to return home immediately to Sydney to be with his wife.

"Bowman informed the stewards that Christine was in better health today.

"Bowman will be available from Monday, March 11th."

Bowman will not participate in Sunday's Black Opal Stakes meeting in Canberra, the replacements below being confirmed by Racing NSW stewards.
