Sebastian Vettel clinched pole position at the German Grand Prix during a dramatic qualifying session that saw Lewis Hamilton leave the session prematurely.

Vettel's last lap ensured him pole ahead of Valtteri Bottas and Ferrari teammate Kimi Raikkonen

A traffic jam at the end of the session compromised the start of Bottas's last lap as Kevin Magnussen stepped back to create a space for his last effort. 19659003] Raikkonen dropped a wheel at the end of the last corner to score the second fastest time, before being demoted to third place when Bottas shone on the line a few seconds later

Ricciardo's turn proved sufficient to pbad the second part of the trio, but he did not participate in qualifying to finish 15th.

Marcus Ericsson gave the Sauber pilot a chance to continue in qualification 2 after being found in the Sachskurve gravel

Although he was able to pull out the gravel, he deposited a significant amount on the race line, and finally pulled the red flag to allow the commissaires to sweep the circuit seven minutes from the end.

Fernando Alonso was eliminated in 11th position, while Sergey Sirotkin and Ericsson were also eliminated.

In qualifying 1, Stoffel Vandoorne reported a problem with the gearshift of his McLaren, the Belgian. He slammed on his lap before returning to the pit lane.

Although he returned to the circuit, Vandoorne finished the session more slowly.

He was sidelined by Esteban Ocon, Pierre Gas ly and Brendon Hartley for Toro Rosso and Williams by Lance Stroll.
