Cancer experts warn that the New South Wales government may be undermining its message on obesity by advertising junk food on public transit.

During the past fiscal year, the state government has spent $ 25 million to combat childhood obesity.

However, the New South Wales Cancer Council says that it contradicts the message by taking the money out of junk food advertisers.

Researchers found that 82% of food advertisements in buses and railway stations involved optional foods such as ice cream, crisps and non-alcoholic beverages.

According to the organization, major parties should pledge to end junk food ads on all state-owned properties before the elections.
