The storm with strong winds has resulted in the loss of power to thousands of properties and chaos for motorists and public transit.

According to the SES, 12 people had to be saved from the flood waters.

One person died after an accident, while two police officers were injured while they were participating in rescue operations.

Heavy rains are expected to soften tonight but the damaging winds could remain until Thursday.
