Wolf Creek celebrity John Jarratt to stand trial for alleged 1976 rape

John Jarratt, a Wolf Creek actor, has been sentenced in NSW District Court on a rape charge since 1976.

Mr Jarratt was in court this morning and nodded while a magistrate dismissed him for a trial to be held late next year.

His attorney told the court that he would act on a "short and hard" trial.

Mr. Jarratt, then 24, allegedly badually badaulted an 18-year-old woman in a house in Randwick, a suburb east of the city, in September 1976.

The woman reported to officers of the Eastern Beaches Police Area Command in December 2017 and an official investigation was opened.

Mr. Jarratt pleaded not guilty.

Aged 66, Mick Taylor is best known for his lead role in the 2005 Australian horror film Wolf Creek.

He graduated from the National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA) in 1973 and has participated in numerous Australian television shows including Play School, A Country Practice and McLeod's Daughters.

Mr. Jarrett also spent a long time as a presenter of the Better Homes and Gardens lifestyle show.
