Kapitän Diego Godín tröstete Muslera direkt nach dem Schlusspfiff. „Ich habe mit ihm gesprochen, natürlich ist er traurig. Es ist immer schade, auszuscheiden und die WM mit einem schlechten Gefühl zu beenden, vor allem für ihn persönlich“, sagte der Verteidiger. „Ich habe ihm schon gesagt, dbad er uns in vielen anderen Spielen gerettet hat. Fernando hat Persönlichkeit, er wird das hinter sich lbaden.“ Ein Spieler der Urus hatte sogar noch während des Spiels Tränen über das Viertelfinal-Aus vergossen.

11.59 Uhr: Nach dem Halbfinal-Einzug Belgiens bei der Fußball-WM in Russland bietet die Fluglinie Brussels Airlines einen Sonderflug zum Spielort St. Petersburg an. Es gebe 608 Plätze für Fans mit Ticket für das Spiel, kündigte eine Sprecherin der Airline der Nachrichtenagentur Belga zufolge am Samstag an. „In Anbetracht des Enthusiasmus der Fans tun wir unser Möglichstes, um ihnen Plätze anzubieten“, sagte die Sprecherin. Belgien war durch einen 2:1-Sieg gegen Brasilien erstmals seit 1986 ins WM-Halbfinale eingezogen.
Am Dienstag (20.00 Uhr MESZ) kämpft die Mannschaft von Trainer Roberto Martínez in St. Petersburg gegen Nachbar Frankreich um den erstmaligen Einzug in ein WM-Endspiel. Viele Fans hatten Tickets für das Viertelfinale am Freitag in Kasan, bekamen aber keinen Flug mehr, wie Belga berichtete. Zwei Charter-Flüge von Brussels Airlines seien innerhalb einer Stunde ausverkauft gewesen. Offiziellen Angaben zufolge waren etwa 5000 belgische Fans in Kasan. Gegner Brasilien wurde im Stadion von rund 20.000 Anhängern unterstützt.
11.50 Uhr: Marco van Basten, Leitender FIFA-Beauftragter für Technische Entwicklung, hat sich für eine weitere Wechselmöglichkeit in der Verlängerung ausgesprochen. „Je mehr fitte Spieler in der Verlängerung auf dem Platz stehen, desto interessanter wird das Spiel“, sagte van Basten der niederländischen Tageszeitung „AD“ (Samstag). „Ich sage deshalb: Vielleicht musst du in der Verlängerung sogar zwei Mal wechseln können“, sagte der Europameister von 1988.

Brand-Drama bei dilettantisch geplantem Event – 100 Fans evakuiert

The southern Zadar fire in the Adriatic Sea, which looks like an aerial heart, erupted on Friday night, media reports quoted firefighters as saying. About 100 people had to be evacuated. The fire was quickly extinguished, police said.
Laut Total Croatia News sei das Ganze sehr dilettantisch abgelaufen. Offenbar gab es einen Facebook-Aufruf – und jemand habe es für eine gute Idee gehalten, dbad 100 Leute mit Fackeln direkt in der Waldbrand-Saison auf einer Insel zusammenkommen. Zum Glück wurde niemand verletzt.
Die Verantwortlichen für das Feuer seien bekannt. They threatened between six months and five years in prison. Im Sommer kommt es an der Adriaküste Kroatiens regelmäßig zu verheerenden Bränden.
WM 2018: Favoritensterben – Ja oder Nein?
Was war das für eine Weltmeisterschaft bisher? Destruktive Spielweisen wurden belohnt, Favoriten sind gescheitert, und der Videobeweis wird in die Geschichte eingehen. Doch war wirklich alles schlecht? Wenn man den Video-Schiedsrichter von der WM mit dem aus der Bundesliga vergleicht, war das bisher ein deutlicher Fortschritt. Doch was ist mit den anderen Punkten? Deutschland musste in der Vorrunde gehen, Argentinien, Portugal und Spanien im Achtelfinale. Ist es das große Favoritensterben, von dem jeder spricht?
Das sollte relativiert werden. Natürlich hat das DFB-Team die Mission Titelverteidigung klar verfehlt, und ihr Ausscheiden gilt als Blamage, doch bei Portugal und Argentinien sollte das Abschneiden in Einzelschicksalen betrachtet werden. Die Argentinier spielten wahrlich keine tolle Vorrunde, doch waren im entscheidenden dritten Gruppenspiel da und holten gegen Nigeria drei Punkte. Dbad es im Achtelfinale dann gegen Frankreich geht, war eine Mischung aus Pech und Eigenverschulden. Aber egal, ob Argentinien oder Frankreich die Segel hätten streichen müssen, es wäre für den jeweiligen Verlierer ein schlechte Weltmeisterschaft gewesen.
Die Portugiesen wurde in einer Gruppe mit Spanien Zweiter. Ein Ergebnis, das für Ronaldo und Co. durchaus als akzeptabel gewertet werden kann. Dbad mit Uruguay dann ein Gegner im Achtelfinale wartet, der weiß wie man eine Endrunde angeht, war nicht dank-, aber machbar. Ronaldo und seine Landsleute mussten dennoch die Heimreise antreten – kein Debakel, aber unter den Erwartungen geblieben.
Da war vielleicht das Ende von Spanien am überraschendsten. Das Achtelfinale gegen Russland könnte man getrost als Abbild der WM nehmen. Der Gastgeber mauerte, die Spanier verzweifelten.
Bitter auch das Aus der Selecao – doch die Brasilianer sind gegen Belgier ausgeschieden, die das große Versprechen nun endlich einhalten und vor allem in der ersten Hälfte bärenstark auftraten.
Wenn man jedoch auf die möglichen Halbfinal-Partien blickt, könnten sie immer noch mit großen Teams gefüllt sein. Spannend wird es. Ob es gut wird, ist die Frage.
