Erl (dpa) – A sintered soup can be found on almost any menu in Austria. It's a clear broth with sliced pancakes as a saturation ingredient.
The specialty, at least its name, recalls the time when the Austrian Empire was expanding north of Italy. There is an omelet called "frittata" and it's something very common, a dish of the day.
An opera named after such a soup is less commonplace. It was written by the young Austrian orchestral conductor, composer and singer Patrick Hahn, a shooting star of the stage of the conductor of the international orchestra. Gustav Kuhn, director of the Tiroler Festspiele at Erl near Kufstein, called him "a very great talent" and took the 22-year-old player under his wing.
At the opening of the Erler Festival on July 5, he performs the last movement of British composer Cyril Scott's first Symphony, two weeks later a program with Brahms and four of his own works – and in the season Erler Winter 2018/2019 he should Realizing his first (real) opera in the Future Festspielhaus, not the "Frittatensuppe" but the opera prank "The occasion for he ladro" of Gioacchino Rossini.
Those who watch the orchestral conductor repeat do not have the impression that they are dealing with an inexperienced youngster. He strikes clearly, sometimes energetically, interrupts again and again to clbadify to transitions or increases. From time to time, Kuhn gets up: "If you work, you have to watch the time, it's soon the break," says the maestro. "My watch is broken," Hahn apologizes unconvincingly, to let the repetition continue.
Hahn comes from a house that had little to do with music. "That my parents do not understand this profession can be good, otherwise they might have had some scruples and not let me make it easy," says Hahn. He came into contact with clbadical music for the first time in the school choir and at Graz Kapellknaben. He was a solo boy and appeared as one of the "three boys" in Mozart's "Magic Flute." During a break from this opera, the idea of the "Frittatensuppe" was born. After graduating from high school, Hahn graduated from the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, graduating in 2017 at the age of 21 with the Master of Arts.
His driving career had already gained momentum. In 2014, he made his debut at the Hungarian National Opera in Budapest in 2017 with a highly acclaimed children's opera at the Munich Opera Festival. The Munich Philharmonic and the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra also invited him.
In master clbades, he perfected his technique, for example with Bernard Haitink. "He only needs to lift his staff very gently, and the orchestra is already exploding," Hahn remembers to the old Dutch master. Because of her many pledges, the infamous Kapellmeister "Ochsentour" as a girl for everything in initially smaller theaters and operas is currently out of the question for him.
"It's easy to get on a specific track, which makes it difficult to get off from there." Hahn wants to badert on the free market, badisted by the famous London artist agency HarrisonParrot, which also includes entrepreneurs such as pianist Maurizio Pollini and conductors Kent Nagano and Paavo Järvi, as well as Gustav Kuhn.
He has much more to offer than a talent as an orchestra conductor and composer. He regularly appears as a singer with songs by Georg Kreisler, where he accompanies himself on the piano. "Pigeons poison for advanced" is the title of his latest program. At first, he only wants to write music, as a hobby, so to speak.
By the way, the libretto of the "Frittatensuppe" had everything in itself. It was, in short, a kind of love death with the help of a poisoned Frittatensuppe. "We wanted everything that makes an opera, love, betrayal, death, jealousy," says Hahn and Grins. And what would a real opera be without deceptive murder?
