The Frauenfeld Open Air Festival is a platform for the international hip-hop scene. While many rap stars seemed pale on the big stage, Eminem staged the art of rap in an awesome way.

The gigantic scene of Big Allmend in Frauenfeld inevitably shows who is good for a star and who is not. And if there is any doubt that Marshall Mather's alias, Eminem, a 45-year-old rapper from Detroit, did everything for hip-hop eternity, he finally Eliminated Friday night in front of a large audience. His concert did not experience humorous insertions or show show effects. He lived only on his rap art.
Others did not seem so good at Frauenfeld. That's true for Pharrell Williams, the successful producer and singer – he could squarely tile entire pools with his platinum awards. He is perfectly stylish on the big stage early Thursday night to hear the tubes of his band N.E.R.D. give to the best. But live, he stays pale. Hip-Hop Anno 2018
A few hours later, the Atlanta Migos are more likely to hit the nerve of young audiences. The rap trio represents the sound of hip-hop in 2018 like no other band: it functions like a well-oiled machine, producing pieces on the running meter. The Migos sound lives from melodic sketches, small hypnotic interjections, patchwork of voices, verses and whistles that often appear as ephemeral and dazzling as a rainbow.
While the audience celebrates as though they were at a heavy metal concert, the three rapped their lyrics with subtle rockers, in their reduced movements are always more likely to refer to the dedicated fan community. Others, like the Austrian Yung Hurn, compete completely without a concept. Hip-hop has become fast and ephemeral. So fast that some musicians – as well as Viennese rappers – seem bored by playing their own songs.
A very concentrated star
Quite different from Eminem. That we invited him to Frauenfeld, this might surprise at first. Who remembers, please, the title of his last album? "Revival", released last December, has not found its place in the history of music. It was just warming up old ideas. He did not offer a musical vision. Marshall Mathers himself, as shown by the last eight years, does not seem to have more. The interest for his person but does not affect. 180000 visitors flocked to this year's three-day open-air festival in Thurgau. Eminem's performance has seen as many viewers as ever before in the entire history of this festival.

And Eminem has proven to be a dignified and highly concentrated orchestral conductor. As there were elements of show, it played a whole group and a group of strings, while the music exploded heroically, while fireworks lit up again and again. Eminem may no longer develop visions in the studio, his songs have been the same for years. At the outdoor Frauenfeld, however, he again proved that he was a rap champion.
