The Tour of Austria celebrates his birthday. For the 70th time, international cycling stars will be pedaling through Austria. The tour has never been so heavy before.
With the Kitzbüheler Horn on Monday (note after the deadline for writing) and the Großglockner on Wednesday, two mountain arrivals await cyclists. But they should not be the last tests. The decision to win the tour will probably fall to the stage of Lower Austria. Here again awaits a mountain arrival on Sonntagberg. Before the famous basilica reaches the finish line, the Waidhofen / Ybbs and Sonntagberg circuit has to be attacked four times.
Hermann Pernsteiner is one of those who surrender it as soon as possible. He comes from the Kirchschlag in the Bucklige Welt and is a mountain specialist. On his first round trip in 2016, the 28-year-old immediately went sixth. This time, he even expects more: "I am currently in very good shape.A total of top five would be possible. The profile comes to my meeting, it is a very difficult tour."
Pernsteiner has a " luxury problem "
That he can drive as fast as he wants, will only emerge during the tour." Pernsteiner comes home with a strong team. Giovanni Visconti, Antonio Nibali and Enrico Gasparotto all claim first place. The Kitzbüheler Horn will show who is in great shape and that colleagues from the Bahrain Merida team are supporting as captain.
Simultaneously with the Tour of Austria, the famous Tour de France began. There is also an Austrian at first with Gregor Mühlberger, 24, Haidershofener (Amstetten district)
