Frankfurt – The group's chief designer Peter Schreyer has always summed it up. The sister brands Kia and Hyundai must always be served fairly, the Kia Sportage, technically largely related to the Hyundai Tucson, has always been the forerunner in the beauty salon. Of course, this also applies to the facelift towards the 2019 model year, with some important technical innovations added to the visual care system compared to the model introduced two years ago. Theme Technology: With three new diesel engines, all already certified at 6d TEMP, the Sportage, which is currently sold in Austria at 85% with auto-ignition, even more attractive.
A fun side effect: Once again, a diesel brake blow occurs in the media, then Sportage's sales curve shows gasoline for four days until the percentage usual come back. The undisputed star of this trio dubbed "EcoDynamics" for the soft hybrid technology is the 4-cylinder 2-liter version, of course, with a turbocharger, a crisp 185 hp. With the soft hybrid Kia now covers the entire electric spectrum, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and pure electric form now this quartet of alternative drives. The motor is powered by a 48-volt system consisting of a lithium-ion battery, a DC-DC converter and a start-up generator. The system provides an additional 13 hp in the short term, relieving the internal combustion engine, which naturally leads to a reduction in fuel consumption.
Starting and accelerating while driving are the times when this technology is used to the fullest. When charging, the boot generator is responsible for the recovery and charges the battery, placed under the trunk. The 48-volt batteries badociated with "light hybrid" systems are considered particularly promising, bringing to 70% the benefits of a complete hybrid at only 30% of the cost. With this engine, Kia proudly announces the reduction of CO2 emissions by four percent and about seven percent of its fuel consumption after the new, rigorously realistic driving cycle. Combined is the "sweetness" with all the wheels, greeting from Graz by Magna, 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission.
Both 1.6 fresh diesel engines, 115 or 133 hp vigorously, replace the previous 1.7 liter capacity offers. The stronger version is also available with a 4-wheel drive and a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. The three engine options are already included in the sales program. Two 1.6-liter gasoline engines of 132 and 177 hp complete the offer.
En route to the first test drive. Seven equipment options are available, with customers upgrading their cars according to Kia Austria. Visually, retouching hardly catches the eye, good for the stability of value. Modified front bumper, the daytime running light sneaks into the lighthouse, inside the usual high-grade printing, new revised steering wheel detail. Perfect as always the space, the taxi legs on the back seat. When choosing the diesel engine, consider the empty weight of about 1.5 ton. The hybrid soft, there is currently only in gold or platinum equipment, its quiet operation, convincing response in acceleration, as well as barely noticeable offsets, reducing consumption compared to the previous version can be read on the screen. The eight-inch touch screen is unfortunately subject to a charge. In support systems, Ceed adds semi-autonomous driving into stop-and-go traffic. The entry into the world of Sportage starts at 25,490 euros, the sweet hybrid starts at 49,590 euros.
