IG Metall wants an arbitration at NHG: will the strike be suspended?

Frankfurt / Main (dpa) – IG Metall wants to end the labor dispute at auto parts supplier Neue Halberg Casting (NHG) by conciliation. The union on Wednesday proposed former Labor Judge Lothar Jordan of Mannheim as arbitrator and the company set a deadline until Thursday 24 hours. If mediators and arbitration are accepted, the six-week strike could be suspended from next Monday, said IG Metall district director Jörg Köhlinger in Frankfurt.

The approximately 2,200 NHG employees in Saarbrücken Leipzig has been on strike since June 14 for higher severance pay and the creation of employment companies in the event of layoffs. Tuesday, a sixth round of negotiations has not succeeded

Since the beginning of the year, the manufacturer of engine blocks and transmission belongs to the Bosnian German group Prevent of the Hastor family, which is 39, is fiercely beaten against the VW group for deliveries and lost orders. NHG management intends to close the Leipzig plant with 700 employees by the end of 2019. The main plant in Saarbrücken, which has about 1,500 employees, is about to break up orders as a result of the strike.
