According to the boss of his daughter Air Dolomiti, Deutsche Lufthansa would still be interested in the acquisition of Italian competitor Alitalia. The Italian government's plans to hold a minority stake in Alitalia could be beneficial, Jörg Eberhart said in an interview published on Thursday.
Deputy Prime Minister Luigi Di Maio told Radio 24 that "many" airlines and private investors have expressed interest in Alitalia. The plan to make the state railway company a partner of the airline with a 15% stake would make Alitalia a more "appetizing" investment.
Eberhart told La Stampa newspaper that a small minority stake in Alitalia could help negotiate with airports and government agencies. The day-to-day affairs of the airline should be "in private hands".
Potential buyers can submit firm offers for the tarnished airline until October 31st.
