The jazz world mourns one of its great talents: the trumpet player Roy Hargrove is suffering a cardiac arrest at the age of 49 years.

reThe jazz trumpet player Roy Hargrove, winner of an American Grammy Award, died at the age of 49. Hargrove suffered a heart attack Friday in New York, following complications in the fight against kidney disease, his longtime director, Larry Clothier, said Saturday on his Facebook page.

Born in Texas, Hargrove studied at the College of Music in Dallas, where he was discovered during a tour of legendary trumpet player Wynton Marsalis. Sponsored by Marsalis, after completing high school, he went to many jazz festivals in Europe and made himself known very early in the world of contemporary jazz.

Hargrove has recorded with many jazz personalities such as Marsalis, Herbie Hanbad, Hoe Henderson and Joshua Redman and has received two Grammy Awards.
