In addition to the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, other smartphones in this comparison offer very good images at night. But small differences can already be identified. For example the iPhone is the darkest. With the OnePlus 6T – for which the night mode must be activated in addition – the shots are much more yellow than the others. The night mode of the Mate 20 Pro, on the other hand, does not necessarily have to be activated, because the automatic system conventional thinning images at night. All night modes have in common that you have to hold the smartphone a little longer for the recording because the recording takes longer than the clbadic pictures. It will be exciting again, if Google has finished its night mode for the pixel and distributed. Colors, Details, HDR and Panorama
The strongest and most natural colors have in my eyes images of OnePlus 6T and Pixel 3. In direct comparison, the Mate 20 Pro is a little pale and the iPhone X mixes a little more yellow in his images. Individually, this guarantees pleasantly warm colors, but is negative in addition to photos of other smartphones. Despite different resolutions, the level of detail of the four smartphones is very high. Nobody stands out here.
HDR mode has now become almost irrelevant. The most important difference between HDR mode activation and deactivation is visible in Pixel 3. However, the Mate 20 Pro has no influence on the contrast, whether you choose the automatic mode or the extra HDR mode . For the other three smartphones, you can enable and disable HDR directly in the Camera application. The Pixel 3 and the iPhone X behind so hide the AI, which makes the recordings even better at night.
In the case of panoramic images, it should first be noted that only the Pixel 3 and the OnePlus 6T allow a 360 degree viewing angle. The Mate 20 Pro is 180 degrees and the iPhone X slightly above. If you move the smartphone in silence and nothing moves anymore, the four participants were very successful in the development. Bokeh effect and zoom
Two of the four smartphones tested have a dual camera, the Mate 20 Pro and even a triple camera. Only the Pixel 3 comes with a camera. All of these, as well as the Pixel 3 with its unique lens, provide a bokeh effect, softening the background to emphasize the person in the foreground. Pixel 3 produces this effect only with software; other smartphones also use their lenses with different focal lengths.
When you zoom in on Pixel 3, With the iPhone X and the OnePlus 6T, you can zoom in on the subject with double magnification. The Mate 20 Pro is ready for zooming three and five times. Compared to digital zoom, the negative effects of near-optical zoom on image quality are minimal. However, you have to expect that the useful AI is only available in the conventional focal length.
The front camera: selfies as big differences
Regardless of the resolution you have to badume in almost every smartphone, the front camera in terms of image quality can not keep up with the main camera at the back. This also applies to our four test devices. Nevertheless, they leave behind many smartphones, including the cheapest. In the limited test field, but convinced the Pixel 3 with the most details in selfies. On the other hand, the Mate 20 Pro hardly recognizes the bottom, which is overexposed.

Conclusion: four versatile, but each with a specialty
At this level, the four smartphone cameras tested are very good all rounders. It is certainly one of the best photo smartphones and, with the Huawei P20 Pro, is the flagship group. However, if you already know that you will record a certain type of images very often, a smartphone can be particularly interesting.
