As of July 1, 2020, Nikolaus Bachler (67) will badume the commercial management of the Salzburg Easter Festival and, starting in the 2022 season, will badume overall artistic responsibility for the festival. This was announced Wednesday by the state of Salzburg correspondence. Since 2008, Bachler is artistic director of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. He finished this post with the 2020/2021 season.

Bachler was appointed new CEO from 1 July 2020 at the Extraordinary General Assembly of the Salzburg Easter Festival which was held yesterday. He succeeds Peter Ruzicka, whose contract expires in the city of Mozart on June 30, 2020.
As early as 12 September, the Supervisory Board voted unanimously in favor of Bachler. The artistic director of the Easter Festival remains the conductor of Staatskapelle Dresden, Christian Thielemann. The artistic program has been developed in agreement with the Executive Director, as Sarah Wedl-Wilson, Chair of the Board of Directors, explains at the request of the APA. Thielemann and Bachler are jointly responsible for the artistic program. Thielemann's contract at the Easter Festival is renewed every year.
Thielemann and the Saxon Staatskapelle Dresden "continue to form the artistic foundation of the Salzburg Easter Festival," he said in a program. This guarantees the artistic continuity of the Easter festival at the highest level. The Staatskapelle Dresden has been the orchestra of the Salzburg Easter Festival since the departure of the Berliner Philharmoniker.
