Start-up street in Linz: "Unique in Europe"
LINZ. The final touches will be finished. Today, in a week, this should be the case: then open the "Strada del start-up" of the tobacco factory Linzer. More than a million euros have sunk in the building.

The Hollywood flip-flops are standing, you can see the contours of the Grand Hotel and some Brownden already denounce the logos of companies: the work of the "Strada del start-up" this week in the final phase. On the second floor of the first construction of the Linzer Tabakfabrik, a 230 meter long street intended for contractors was built during a year of construction. "The road is unique in Europe," said Chris Mller, general manager of the tobacco factory today, Tuesday, during a press visit. More than a million euros have been invested, next Tuesday the road will be officially opened.
The goal is to provide space and infrastructure for new and old companies looking for founders. The street has 56 Broeinheiten ("pixels"), of which 85% are already taken. 18 companies have taken their place, including FACC, Fill Maschinenbau, Vivatis or Strabag. There are also start-ups such as Vresh (fashion brands), Solid.Art (furniture recycling) or Blockpit (portfolio management for crypto-ceramics). Companies can buy pin units at a fixed monthly rate – prices range from 100 to 600 euros. For established companies, the rental rate is 2400 euros per month. In total, there was room for 300 employees, said Mller.
"The Strada is the proof of the new Linzer Spirit," said the mayor of Linz and chairman of the tobacco factory, Klaus Luger. Unlike other topics, the tobacco plant has a close connection between the land and the city. The city of Linz, owner of the former Tschickbude, cooperates with the startupus300, the platform of services and information of the creative region, as well as with the startup incubator tech2b.
Produce products at the end of the street
The road connects the start of the business angel network 300 to a prototype production area, the "Grand Garage". This costs around 4.3 million euros, is funded by private funds and is expected to open in February next year. The founders must use their ideas to produce prototypes of products, from metal processing to 3D printing. In the future, several product fairs are planned at the tobacco plant, Mller notes.
