The natural gas storage facilities in Austria are currently 78% full, so that the supply of domestic gas customers is secure even in case of very long winter, said Monday the control authority E -control. "Despite the major accident occurred in Baumgarten, the shops are full for the winter," said Andreas Eigenbauer, board member of E-Control.

According to Wolfgang Urbantschitsch, of E-Control, gas utilities can provide their customers with enough gas, even in extreme situations, as stated in the applicable European standards for supply standards.

The filling level of all Austrian storage facilities is currently about 72 TWh – 64 TWh were delivered last winter. This means, according to E-Control, that even with levels now lower than those before the winters 2016/2017 (81% on 20.11.2016) and 2017/2018 (86.5% on 20.11.2017), previously stored gas volumes "are a good starting point for the winter of 2018/2019".
