The A.B. Protestant Church in Austria chooses a new bishop on Saturday. Michael Bünker, former incumbent, retires after twelve years in power. There are three candidates to choose from: former director of Diakonie, Michael Chalupka, Carinthian superintendent Manfred Sauer, and Austrian pastor Andreas Hochmeir.

The candidates were nominated by the superintendents' bademblies, which bring together the delegates from the parishes of the respective diocese. The synod's electoral meeting takes place at the Albert Schweitzer House in Vienna. Before the election, candidates will present themselves to more than 60 members of the entire Austrian synod. The election is held by secret ballot, a two-thirds majority is required.
