Eric Tveter, long-time Managing Director, has been replaced by Switzerland's largest cable operator. His successor will be Severina Pascu from September. The 45-year-old Romanian has been working for Liberty Global, the US parent company of the UPC, for ten years. She has been chief operating officer of the UPC since 2017.

Group-wide reorganization

Change at the head of the UPC must be included in a broader context. This year, it became known that Liberty Global sells various European companies to the British telecom group Vodafone. East European cable network providers, previously organized in badociation with UPC Switzerland, also joined hands. Liberty Global also announced early this year the sale of UPC Austria to Deutsche Telekom

. The once important country group has declined to only three nations. Already on sale Vodafone was speculation about what could happen with UPC Switzerland. The focus was on a possible merger with the mobile operator Salt or with Sunrise.

With the reorganization announced today, Liberty Global is now taking a first step. In this way, the Swiss entity will be removed from the previous structure and will again be managed independently in the future. This decision should give a new impetus to the consolidation rumors on the Swiss telecom market

Tveter withdraws step by step

Eric Tveter joined UPC nine years ago when the company still called Cablecom. When he took office, the cable network provider was considered one of the least popular companies in Switzerland. The 59-year-old American has managed to revive the company. With the name change of the new company "UPC", this process was completed in late 2015.

The same year, Tveter was also promoted to head the entire group of countries. He was ultimately responsible for the fortunes of eight national companies. With the sale to Vodafone, however, Tveter became a landless king this year. A reorganization was predictable and is now over. From September, the US Telecom Manager will no longer operate the Swiss entity operationally. However, he remains a director of UPC Switzerland and will continue to lead Liberty Global's business in Eastern Europe.
