Bregenz (APA) – With much applause, the opening of the 73rd Bregenz Festival was completed Wednesday evening. The first Austrian of the rarity of the opera "Berthe Cenci" (1903-1996) by Berthold Goldschmidt (1903-1996), staged in the sixteenth century by Johannes Erath at the Festspielhaus with strong images but without explicit references to present.

The story directed by Patriarch Francesco Cenci (interpreted by Christoph Pohl), who usually buy responsibility for his brutal acts of the church. A lot of purple and a lot of gold characterize Katharina Tasch's costumes. The second wife of Cencis Lucrezia (Dsamilja Kaiser) and her daughter Beatrice (Gal James) covet and give order for a martial home, for which they are punished by the inexorable church with death.

In the dungeon scene of the third act comes the Goldschmidt's little elegiac music is best expressed. It is here that the two-quarter opera evening, orchestrated by the Vienna Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Johannes Debus, takes place in the strongest moments.

"Béatrice Cenci" is still twice on the program of the Bregenz Festival. Tomorrow, Thursday, Georges Bizet's "Carmen" seaplane production last year will be previewed. The weather is good
