According to media reports, Calgary's bid for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games is almost over. No agreement could be reached on negotiations between the state, the province of Alberta and the city of Calgary on funding, reported Tuesday the Canadian broadcaster CBC.

Then, City Council still has Tuesday (local time) to recommend, both to stop the application process and to cancel a survey of citizens scheduled for November 13th. Previously, Mayor Naheed Nenshi had already threatened a cancellation if there was no agreement on funding. The dispute is about a gap of several hundred million dollars.

Stockholm is also critical of the application

Besides Calgary, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has accepted the Italian / Milan / Cortina combination of Ampezzo and Stockholm as a candidate in Buenos Aires in early October. The government of the designated city of Stockholm, however, is critical of a candidacy.

Those who are authorized to host the Winter Olympics next winter will be appointed by the IOC in June 2019 in Lausanne. In the case of Graz / Schladming, the Austrian Olympic Committee (ÖOC) withdrew its candidacy in July due to lack of support from the Styrian state government.
