The largest private operator of rehab clinics in Germany is about to be sold. A new financial investor should finance the expansion in Europe.

The clinic building looks like a castle above the romantic Gottleubetal, between the Eastern Ore Mountains and Saxon Switzerland, about thirty kilometers south of Dresden. The Art Nouveau sanatorium, with its red roofs and ornate pavilions, is considered the first major sanatorium in German history. It is here that bakers, turners and locksmiths came here for the first time in 1913 to recover from the hardships of their work.

Today, one of the largest rehabilitation facilities in Germany is located on a site of 28 hectares. 650 patients are treated here in six different clinics, psychosomatic patients as well as patients with back problems or cardiovascular problems. The goal is the same as in all rehabilitation clinics: patients must be stabilized and their working capacity restored. The center is managed by Median, the largest private provider of rehabilitation clinics in Germany. Under the umbrella of financial investor Waterland, the Berlin group has expanded the market through mergers and acquisitions. 121 institutions are now united under the median roof, about one-fifth of all private rehabilitation clinics in Germany. It is the fifth largest chain of private clinics on the national healthcare market with annual sales of nearly one billion euros. The median could become the next major target for buyout of financial investors in Germany: upcoming sales. The former owner is currently looking for potential offers from investment bank Morgan Stanley (Morgan Stanley share). The value of the transaction is estimated at around 1.2 billion euros. All leading private equity funds are turning to the circles according to the purpose of purchase and are reviewing the acquisition.
