Kinshasa (APA / Reuters) – The current Ebola outbreak is the hardest in Congo, according to the Health Ministry on Friday. Probably 198 people died in the provinces of North Kivu and Ituri. In total, 319 people are sick.

The measures to contain the epidemic are made more difficult by the repeated attacks by armed groups against the badistants and by the resistance of the affected communities. The security situation is the main challenge, said recently the Director General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, as a result of popular mistrust. In case of attack, rescue operations would be stopped. "If the mission remains stationary, the virus will have an advantage."

Since the discovery of the Ebola virus in 1976, Congo has already experienced ten epidemics of its often fatal disease. Meanwhile, rescue teams are trying to curb the spread by vaccination. The most serious epidemic occurring between 2013 and 2016 has so far affected 28,000 people in West Africa.
