GENEVA / KAMPALA. The life-threatening Ebola virus continues to spread in Congo in Central Africa and neighboring countries are alarmed. In Uganda, 1,600 helpers are being vaccinated at health centers along the border, said Health Minister Jane Ruth Aceng this weekend.

Suspected cases of Ebola have already been reported in southern Sudan, Uganda and even Yemen, announced the World Health Organization (WHO). But in no case was it really an Ebola infection.

Nearly 12 million people have been tested for Ebola at border crossings in Congo. There were 14 suspected cases, in one of which the virus had been detected.

According to the Congolese Ministry of Health, from early August to late October, 250 people were infected with certainty and 35 others probably by the Ebola virus. 81 patients had recovered, 180 patients had died.

WHO is alarmed by the growing number of cases in Congo. The boss of the WHO, Adhanom Ghebreyesus, is going to Congo this week. He is also accompanied by the head of the UN peace mission, Jean-Pierre Lacroix. (AP)
