Chicago / São Paulo . Competition between Boeing and Airbus will continue in the future also for regional and business jets. Following Airbus' acquisition of Bombardier's C-Series program for a new short and medium-haul jet, Boeing entered into an alliance with Embraer. A letter of intent was signed for a joint venture, Boeing said:
Boeing jumped 0.72% in New York shortly after trading began, and Embraer paper has earned 35% since the beginning of the year.
The transaction will provide the company with commercial aircraft and Embraer services a joint venture in which Boeing owns 80% and Embraer 20% of the shares. Overall, the joint venture is valued at $ 4.75 billion
Embraer with its jet aircraft E and E2 is the next supplier of regional aircraft of about 100 seats. Until now, Boeing and Airbus have not been represented in this segment.
Boeing originally wanted to completely recover Embraer. The Brazilian government, which has a veto on Golden Share, declined on the grounds that Embraer was a strategically important company. The military division remains in the hands of the Brazilians. (eid / ag.)
