England gives Rooney a farewell victory

In the farewell game of record scorer Wayne Rooney, the English national football team celebrated a 3-0 home victory (2-0) over the US team. Jesse Lingard (26th minute) of Manchester United, Trent Alexander-Arnold (27th) and Callum Wilson (77th) of Liverpool met Thursday with Gareth Southgate coach at Wembley, London. Rooney scored for goalscorer Lingard in the 58th minute.

Fourteen months after his retirement from the "Three Lions", Rooney's comeback in his country has not been controversial. But his 120th appearance is undoubtedly the last for the 33-year-old, who now plays in US Major League Soccer for DC United. Former national goalkeeper Peter Shilton remains the record team player ahead of Rooney with 125 games in England.
