Mozilla apparently plans to offer pay-per-view VPN services for its Firefox browser. With a VPN service, you can surf virtually anonymously. During a test phase, some users in the United States will be able to subscribe to the VPN service of the Swiss provider ProtonVPN, which, according to Firefox, captures very little user data, which is a significant problem for Mozilla .
Mozilla, the developer of Firefox, also involved as an organization behind many projects outside the IT sector, is planning something new in terms of security. As an entry in the Mozilla blog shows, it seems like we want to offer VPN subscriptions when we look for new ways to let Firefox users surf in the safest possible way. VPN stands for virtual private network. Thanks to the VPN, the user can – in simple terms – use the IP address of the VPN service and camouflaged surfer. In addition, since the data is still encrypted, it is possible not to trace the data flow to the user.
In the blog, Mozilla announces a test phase during which a small group of randomly selected users in the United States can sign up for the new VPN service, which will be billed. Mozilla works with the Swiss company ProtonVPN, specializing in VPN, as its name indicates. According to Mozilla, many other companies are possible – but in any case, Mozilla only wants to work with companies that meet Mozilla's high standards. An important point here is that as little user data as possible should be saved. ProtonVPN is particularly strict and does not collect any data on the use of the VPN service.
