"Since we joined this sport in 2017, we are talking about developing new destinations to enhance the appeal of Formula One, and the Grand Prix of Vietnam is a response to this aspiration," said Chase Carey, Director General of Formula 1., Hanoi is "one of the most exciting cities in the world with a great history and an incredible future." Carey has already spoken of a "highlight in the Formula One calendar".

Fourth street circuit in Formula 1

Vietnam, a single-party Communist country, will then Singapore, China and Japan, fourth place of the Asian Grand Prix of the season after the other. The 5,565-kilometer circuit with 22 turns is located about 12 km from downtown Hanoi, near the national stadium. It is partly driven on new roads, partly on existing roads.

Hermann Tilke, a long-time German civil engineer in Formula 1, is also responsible for the design of the track. After Monaco, Azerbaijan and Singapore, this is the fourth urban circuit on which will ride Formula 1. This is the first new track to be entered in the race calendar by Liberty Media. 2020 should also be added to a managed city in Miami.

Vietnam, with its more than 90 million inhabitants, is one of the fastest growing regions in the region after economic opening. Criticism, however, still faces government criticism. Formula 1 is not very popular in Vietnam until now.
