The October update closes many security loopholes. Most devices have been updated in the meantime.

Samsung started sending the October Galaxy Note 9 security update. In addition to the current android-Securitypatches, the update contains no improvement, according to Changelog.

Google had released the October security patches for Android earlier this month. As always, Google fixes patches for a total of 26 vulnerabilities at two levels of security patch. Devices with a security patch on October 1st are protected against vulnerabilities in the Framework, Media Framework, and System components. Are concerned smartphones with Android 7.x Nougat, 8.x Oreo and 9 Pie. They are vulnerable to remote code execution, elevation of privilege, theft of sensitive information and denial of service attacks.

The October 5th security patch fixes for three of the 26 total bugs on Android. They allow everyone an extension of user rights.

The DeX Pad is already available from around 60 euros. This makes it possible to use a Galaxy compatible smartphone as the basis for a desktop workstation.

Most smartphone manufacturers, like Samsung, essentially implement the first level of patch. However, the vulnerabilities listed in the second level of hotfixes will be closed at the first fix level of the next month. So, on October 1, Android security closes the vulnerabilities included in the second patch level of September.

In addition to Google's security updates for Android, some smartphone manufacturers also release security-related patches for their devices. Samsung lists 49 vulnerabilities in its October newsletter. However, the manufacturer does not provide any description of some vulnerabilities for security reasons. There should also be gaps in the highest level of danger.

Update

The update over the air (OTA) must be proposed to the installation under Settings – Software update on the Galaxy Note 9. If this is not the case, you can try to install updating with the help of Smart Switch tool. Updates are often available earlier than via OTA. Smart Switch is available for Windows and macOS.

If you do not know which firmware version is installed on your Samsung smartphone, you can do it with the Samsung Phone INFO app. Among other things, the application lists the product code so you can find out if an update is available from the table below. You can also access this information by typing * # 1234 # in the phone application. The corresponding vendor code is specified under CSC.

Smartphone with stylus: Samsung Galaxy Note 8 in the test

The first thing that most people think about when talking about the Samsung Galaxy Note is the explosion of batteries. Last year's fiasco seems to have weathered Samsung well. The Note Line seems to have fans so loyal that Samsung keeps the name of this year's pen model.
