Vienna (APA) – After a tough Brexit, the Wienerberger could "have some problems," said Heimo Scheuch, director of Wienerberger, Friday at the Gewinn-Messe in Vienna. However, Wienerberger would be able to deal with these problems because most products are made in England. However, Scheuch supposes a constructive solution of Brexit.
Wienerberger is the largest Austrian investor in the UK and operates 14 plants there. "Everyone is at full capacity," said Scheuch. Business was going very well, with England still building fewer new homes than before the crisis, so growth potential remains considerable. "So we have the best conditions to continue growing."
Wienerberger would be hardest hit by the fact that 200 million units of bricks are delivered from the American continent to England. The administration of these supplies would be complicated by a tough Brexit. "We are doing everything we can to prepare ourselves," says Scheuch. Currently, you drive "just in time" on English shipyards. In the worst case, you will build, for example, deposits.
Scheuch also announced today, along with the voestalpine, the creation of a foundation for employees, through which employees could participate in society and have a say.
Wienerberger wants to become even stronger and not be so cyclical in the future, no longer simply a physical company. This decoupling of economic cycles has already been achieved, 25% of sales are already made with innovative products. As part of the 2020 strategy, many measures have been taken. For example, Wienerberger is starting more and more in prefabrication. According to Wienerberger, operating profit (EBITDA) is expected to reach nearly 700 million euros by 2020, according to Scheuch. The foundations have already been laid and are now being implemented. The dividend will also increase. "It keeps getting bigger," says Scheuch.
