With the Huawei Mate 20 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S9 (Plus), the main models of the leading manufacturers of Android phones face each other in this comparison test. But what device can convince in this test and offers more for the money? After all, for the Mate 20 Pro, about 1,000 euros are due. The Galaxy S9 now costs only about 550 euros. The plus model is available for around 650 euros.
Strengths and weaknesses in brief
All three devices perform well in our test with very good results. However, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro outweighs both Samsung models with 9.4 points. This score comes mainly because it shows small weaknesses. We subtract points in our test only in the design, processing and quality of the voice. But the results of Samsung models are visible with 8.8 and 9.0. The Plus model can even gain an advantage over the clbadic S9 model by improving battery life and the Multimedia category.
The only major weakness of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro is its own memory card, which must be used to expand the memory. Otherwise, it can score through 3D face recognition and a built-in fingerprint sensor. On the other hand, the fingerprint reader is placed at the back of the Galaxy models and can not be optimally achieved here. As an additional feature, the Mate 20 Pro can also be used as a charging mat for wireless charging.
The triple camera Mate 20 Pro also convince in our test. In terms of zoom capabilities, the S9 Plus can not compete with its dual camera, the clbadic Galaxy S9 offering only one camera. However, Samsung devices have a decisive advantage on the Huawei smartphone: they have a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
Anyone who is willing to spend $ 1,000 on a smartphone will not find a better device than the Mate 20 Pro in the Android section. Who can compromise on some points and prefer to spare his bag, should grab the Galaxy S9 Plus. The standard version is a little different from other devices.

Huawei fleeing competition
The Huawei Mate 20 Pro is a true vector of technology and in this respect, at least in the Android camp, all other devices are in the shadows. If you are looking for a high-end mobile phone, you can not ignore this model. As far as the Chinese manufacturer still does not exhaust the full potential of the material. Some features will be submitted later by the software update.
The S9 is more practical and sounds better, but the fingerprint sensor remains a nuisance.
The Galaxy S9 holds better in the hand and sounds better than the S8. In addition, it can be used with two SIM cards. The camera has grown in almost all lighting situations, but not in a revolutionary way compared to its predecessor. On the other hand, Samsung must continue to file on biometric unlocking methods. Here is the Galaxy S9 is only a Verschlimmbesserung.
Significant added value
The dual camera located at the back of the Galaxy S9 Plus greatly expands the creative possibilities of photographers in good lighting conditions. In addition, the larger S9 has a slightly better battery life. In this sense, the model for Samsung fans is actually the best choice. However, the XXL smartphone should not be suitable for everyone because of its huge dimensions.

This is how netzwelt tests
How does netzwelt test? Instead of raining readers with numbers, we opted for an individual test pattern for each test. We use the devices of writing and everyday life. We take pictures, make phone calls and play with them. The objective is to determine the strengths and weaknesses of the device and to give an estimate of the type of user to whom the smartphone is intended. Our badessment includes five individual badessments ("Design and Processing", "Equipment, Performance and Operation", "Voice Quality and Battery Life" and "Multimedia").
The overall score results from individual scores, but the tester may evaluate or write down a score. This is appropriate, for example, if one of the criteria is particularly outstanding compared to other devices. Who are we, how do we get our test equipment and how are Netzwelt's finances explained on our transparency page?
