Shortly after Huawei launched its MediaPad M5 iPad, the second novelty introduced by the Chinese electronics giant at the 2018 Mobile World Congress in Austria now begins in Austria. Since Thursday, July 5, the MateBook X Pro is available in Austria. We have already extensively tested the MacBook Challenge in the last 10 days. See how it worked in the following paragraphs.

Processing, Design and "Spy Camera"

It is striking, even after unpacking, to deal with a high quality laptop. Here a lot of metal meets a reduced design, rounded edges, a very slim case and a high quality workmanship. The screen is almost borderless and makes the MateBook X Pro a real eye-catcher. In comparison, while the screen occupies only 80% of the front of the Apple MacBook Pro, it's a staggering 91%. Also the surface around the keyboard, which has bright keys, feels good. The excellent operation is underlined by the extremely fast, very sensitive and wide touchpad as well as by the quick response touch screen. Only the keyboard shortcut can cause problems to one or the other prolific author. The entrance becomes a little tedious after a long time. A real highlight is hiding in the top bar of the keyboard. Specifically, it is a camera pop-up. It is pressed into the keyboard and only turns on after a finger press on the button with the camera symbol. It is only in operation if the user wants it. After several successful hacker attacks in recent years, during which attackers accessed the webcams of laptops, this is extremely beneficial for personal security. Another practical novelty is the round power button in which a fingerprint sensor is inserted at the same time. In our test, it worked very reliably and extremely fast.

Display and Performance

Technically, Huawei does not let anything burn. The 13.9-inch (3000 x 2000-pixel) 3K high-resolution 3K display shines with exceptional display quality, rich contrast, and good brightness. The Core i5 processor (8250U), combined with the 8 GB RAM, offers a good computing power. Thanks to the Nvidia GeForce MX150 GPU (2GB GDDR5), resource-intensive graphics applications run smoothly, and desktop programs can do it anyway. In addition, the MateBook X Pro has also been able to convince in the test with its running time. In normal operation, the laptop lasted a good 10 hours on a single charge. Although Huawei promises 12 hours of time, but the test result can be seen. In operation, the notebook is very quiet, which is extremely pleasant to work. Other benefits have been brought by the device with its fast 256GB SSD, fast WLAN and multifunction adapter. The latter supports the fast charging function known to smartphones via USB-C, so that users can use a charger for both devices. A Thunderbolt, a USB A 3.0 and a headphone connection (3.5mm) are also installed. In contrast, Huawei could no longer accommodate an SD card reader in the slim housing.

Software and Sound

The operating system comes with Windows 10 Home preinstalled. This also makes all known Microsoft programs available. In addition, the Chinese offer some own applications. Huawei Share is particularly remarkable. With this feature, photos and files can be transferred wirelessly, but still very quickly, from other devices Huawei – 1000 photos in 3 minutes and 1 GB of video in 1 minute. When it comes to sound, the MateBook X Pro naturally does not want to lag behind the MediaPad M5. The notebook is equipped with a Dolby Atmos sound system with specially developed quad speakers. And the result can be heard. For such a slim laptop, the sound quality is really good.

The MateBook X Pro measures 30.4 x 21.7 x 1.46 cm 1.33 kg of light [19659005] Conclusion

With the new MateBook X Pro, Huawei has developed a very good notebook. Key features such as performance, display, processing, battery life and connectivity, there is nothing to criticize. In combination with the pre-installed software and additional features (camera set-up, power button with fingerprint sensor, borderless screen), it results in a very consistent overall package. Except for the short touch, which is a matter of taste, we could not detect a weak point. And because of the top real equipment is also the price of 1.499 euros fully in order. With the new MateBook X Pro Huawei not only other high-quality Windows 10 laptops, but also Apple is expected to steal a share of the market. In Austria, the notebook since Thursday (July 5th) in the color Gray Space available.
