The only career of Jürgen Melzer ends, that 37 years old came out differently. After the sensational win over Milos Raonic Melzer would have the South African at his farewell tournament in Vienna today Kevin Anderson to meet.
Should meet, because the Austrians can not compete. A gastrointestinal flu makes meritous applause impossible in Vienna's Stadthalle. Melzer is one of the few tennis players to finish his individual career with a win.
Along with Thomas Muster, Julian Knowle, Oliver Marach and Alexander Peya, Jürgen Melzer is one of five Austrians to have won a Grand Slam tournament. But in turn: much earlier, in 1999, Melzer made his debut on the ATP tour in Vienna.

Six years pbaded when he won his first ATP tournament: in 2005 he won with Julian Knowle in St. Petersburg.

In 2006, it was at the time of the singles: Melzer beat in the final of Bucharest the Italian Filippo Volandri and won his first single triumph on the ATP circuit.

In July 2010, he made his first career milestone: alongside Philipp Petzschner of Germany, he won the Wimbledon double for the first Grand Slam tournament victory.

The Davis Cup has always been a matter of heart for Melzer. He is the long-time player of the red-white-red team, scoring 35 summonses and 75 stakes.

Especially the meetings with his brother Gerald, as here in the ATP tournament in Kitzbühel in 2016. After Jürgen has already beaten Dominic Thiem, he lost against his brother in the quarterfinals.

In 2017, Melzer again reached the main competition of the Open of Australia. There he met the eventual winner Roger Federer – and could even snatch a sentence from Switzerland.
