Kubrick's Missed Scenario Discovered

The script was discovered by Kubrick's expert Nathan Abrams as part of his research for a new book about the filmmaker. As a result, the script is owned by the son of a former colleague of Kubrick. The director of cult bands like "2001: A Space Odyssey" or "A Clockwork Orange" wrote it with Calder Willingham.

The screenplay bears the stamp of the MGM movie studio, dated October 24, 1956 – even before Kubrick Percée with "Paths to Glory" (1957). The project was known, but "nobody would have thought it was over," Abrams is quoted in the "Guardian". "But now we have a copy, and that shows that he wrote a complete script."

Non-Moral Code Met

Why this was not finally done, there are different points of view. For Abrams, it seems very likely that the story of a young baron approaching his mother through a boy was probably too embarrbading for Hollywood at the time and did not respect the moral code dominant.

Originally written in the early 20th century. Century settled in the history of Austria was shipped by Kubrick to America. So is the name of the boy Eddie and not Edgar. The news has been filmed several times, including by former Kubricks badistant: Andrew Birkin in 1988 introduced such illustrious names as Klaus Maria Brandauer and Faye Dunaway in front of the camera.
