50,000 art lovers visited the Kunsthaus Bregenz (KUB) in 2018, 20,000 fewer than last year. However, for Thomas D. Trummer, director of KUB, it was "a solid year", as he said at the presentation of the new program for 2019. There will be four exhibitions in 2019 – video art, painting , sculpture and photography.

It starts with the British Ed Atkins (January 19 to March 31). He is considered one of the most important post-internet art artists. Trummer explains that grief, melancholy and anxiety are the hallmarks of Atkins' work. At the center of his exhibition, the videographer presents a desperate avatar, a virtual figure that resembles the artist himself.

In the spring (April 13 to June 30), KUB will present works by the Swiss painter Miriam Cahn. She focuses on the subject of the face in her large format images. Their partially formatted figures in bright orange, green and yellow look at the visitor or only hint at the shadow.

For the festival season in summer, the Kunsthaus Bregenz presents the famous sculptor and designer Thomas Schütte. His sculptures, which can be up to six meters high, will be exhibited at the KUB and in the city from July 13 to October 6. The highlight is a sculpture still in distribution: a dragon steamed steam.

New York photo artist Zoe Leonard ends the 2019 season. From his last group of works, one can see a gigantic photo of the Rio Grande.
