This is the 19th season of director Werner Auer, who takes the lead role in his production, who designs and directs the scenography. Jean Valjean, protagonist of the musical, spent 19 years in prison – coincidence or context, however.
Which leads to Staatz knows what to expect: for example, the last start of the performance (20:30), the last end of the performance (midnight). A well attended restaurant section. Many ambitious young people and some established professionals. A fortified, broad-walled scene with many steps and a few doors, a pompous performance with a live orchestra, placed in a side-by-side extension with panoramic windows.
In the role of Javert Law & Order, Auer can score with his usual presence and probably also the most convincing vocal performance of the evening. His friendly counterpart like Jean Valjean finds it in Marius Merstein-MacLeod, also proven in genre. The event, which spans many years, takes place on an epic scale, with many contributors populating the sweeping scene that imagines many parameters. The acoustic quality allows small differentiated shades. The ruin of Staatz and the imposing rocks are illuminated this year and complete the scenography in the background.
The taste of the public seems in any case filled: almost all representations are already complete, there will be an additional date on August 5, and August 12 a "musical gala under the stars" will be concluded. For 2019 – to mark the 20th anniversary – Auer announces the first Austrian of Frank Wildhorn's comedy "The Count of Monte Cristo".
