LG Display delivers up to 24 million screens to Apple

[ad_1]

A few weeks ago already, there were indications that Apple would get another supplier for OLED Display * with LG and now the clues have again condensed. According to a report from Digitimes Apple is expected to buy this year about 20 million LCD screens and 3 to 4 million OLED screens * from LG Displays and probably use it for the production of new models. iPhone in 2018.

In the original Digitimes states:

… LG Display * reportedly signed an agreement for Apple iPhone and iPod touch in the second half of 2018, according to a Newspim report based in Korea

Based on the contract, LG's display of 3-4 million OLED panels as well as 20 million LCD panels smartphones * to Apple in 2018, said the report, which added that LG Display wants produce the OLED panels needed for the iPhone from its fab E6 6G in Paju. …

Specifically, LG will probably deliver the largest 6.5-inch OLED technical displays, equipping the largest of the new iPhone models. Conversely, it would probably mean that the apple probably did not expect this segment with sales of less than 5 million pieces in 2018. The remaining screens and especially the screens for other Apple models will probably continue this year to from Samsung *. Prices are quite high, so that Apple has found a partner with LG, which could strengthen the position of the company in the price war with Samsung *.

If the rumors confirmed it, it would be interesting to see how to distinguish the models of the iPhone in 2018 in terms of quality. It is quite conceivable that there are differences between manufacturers and therefore also between models both in presentation and in susceptibility to error.

The new iPhone planned in a nutshell

Apple seems to reprogram the next models of the iPhone and expects that especially models with LCD * will be particularly popular. Currently, it is expected that the company will use three models for the 2018 iPhone:

  • iPhone with LCD screen * and 5.7-inch 5.8-inch screen
  • iPhone with OLED display * and 6.0 to 6, 1 inch screen
  • iPhone with OLED display and 6.4 to 6.5 inch screen

All three models will come with the new Notch design. It was previously badumed that purchases will divide about half of OLED models and half on LCD models. Apple now seems to rule out this and it is badumed that the majority of sales on the LCD model will be taken into account – among other things, because it will probably be cheaper than the other two models. 60 dollars less than the OLED variants and of course this is reflected in the final price of the models.

In the Wall Street Journal, you write in the original:

Apple expects LCD models to make the majority of iPhone sales in its lineup released this fall, a larger proportion than expected by badysts, and plans to use next year too. Production planning suggests the transition to a new type of screen called Organic Light Emitting Diode, or OLED, when it looks like the first OLED smartphone *. Analysts say the demand is lower than their initial forecasts for this phone, the iPhone X *, mainly because of its price of $ 999.

Currently, the most expensive LCD model at Apple (the iphone 8 * plus) costs $ 909 and is therefore nearly 250 euros cheaper than the variant with OLED screen. This difference can probably also be expected for the new models, so it is quite plausible to badume that customers will use the cheapest version, if it is similar.
