LG Display seems to be gaining momentum. After initially baduming that the South Korean manufacturer would produce 2 to 4 million OLED panels for the iPhone X Plus after the initial difficulties, LG now promises 3 to 5 million units.

LG Display boosts OLED production

Apple's multi-billion dollar investment in LG Display could bear fruit. So, it currently seems that LG Display can actually happen as a second supplier for OLED panels. In April, the Wall Street Journal still claimed that the challenges of mbad production by OLED led LG Display to not respect Apple's agreed schedule.

However, by the end of June, LG Display was hoping that at least some of the OLED panels for this year's iPhone range could deliver. 2 to 4 million units should at least be a start. As the Korea Times reports, dark clouds continue to decline, which is already known as 3 to 5 million OLED panels. This was announced by an unspecified LG executive.

Apple usually needs at least two vendors for each component to provide stability in case of problems with a vendor and to improve its trading position. Samsung is the only supplier of OLED screens for the iPhone X because Samsung was the only company able to meet the stringent quality requirements of Apple in the required amount. Now, chances are good that LG Display can relax the situation. A year ago, Apple would have paid $ 2.7 billion to LG for this progress, so that the manufacturer can boost the production of OLED. The amount represents the major part of the cost of a new OLED factory In return, Apple should receive an exclusive delivery of OLED panels.
