The mother of the AUA, Lufthansa, checks the entrance to Alitalia. In recent days, officials of German airlines have had an interview with Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Armando Siri, according to the economic newspaper Milan Sole 24 Ore (Saturday edition). Lufthansa is working on the case with Councilor Merrill Lynch, the newspaper reported.
The three special commissioners Alitalias will close next week the examination of binding offers and statements of interest of the airline. They will then report their findings to the Rome government. Binding offers were submitted ten days ago by the Italian railways and the American airline Delta. A declaration of interest has arrived from EasyJet.
Alitalia filed for bankruptcy in May 2017 and has been operating since then with the help of the Italian Government's bridge loan. The airline, which has about 11,000 employees, has written losses for years. In May of last year, the airline was placed under provisional supervision after the failure of a stimulus package, including wage cuts and job cuts. Originally, a solution had to be found by the end of April this year, but the deadline was extended until the end of October.
