Mars no longer approaches Earth until 2035
Sky observers only benefit from a Perihelian position every 15 to 17 years. More recently, the two planets are so close in 2003 with 55.8 million kilometers, and next time it will not be long before 2035. Not only is Mars observable all night from a terrestrial point of view, but it "shines even more than the giant planet Jupiter, and in its typical red, striking," says Alexander Pikhard, director of the Vienna Association for Astronomy.
