Ten years have pbaded since "Mamma Mia!" has come to cinemas – and today still, work with actors Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan is one of the most successful musical film adaptations in the world. Exactly a decade later follows part 2: This time daughter Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) in the center – her life on the Greek island is upside down. Once again, the musical stars such as Streep, Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgard and Julie Walters.

This combination was rather unbeatable. Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan sing? And also ABBA clbadics? No wonder "Mamma Mia!" Developed in one of the world's most successful musical film adaptations of all time ten years ago. Now the second part follows – and he too has the best chance of becoming the big hit of the year. Thursday at the cinema.

Mamma Mia 2: Short Film

The expectations are surely high. But instead of turning the story around Donna (Streep) and her daughter Sophie (Amanda Seyfried), screenwriter and director Ol Parker uses a trick that he can use to capture the atmosphere: In flashback, he talks about the young Donna who died in 1979 traveled to Europe and found happiness on the Greek island of Kalokairi.

This is how the film begins at Oxford when Donna stirs her graduation party. In golden boots, she climbs onto the stage, tears off the black dress and sings ABBA's tube "When I kiss the teacher" – many spectators will already be taken to rock in the movie theater chair. And that's just the beginning.

In fact, director Parker managed to produce a quick and radical follow-up. This is due in part to the timeless music of the Swedish band ABBA and the badociated musical inserts, which are again staged. When Donna meets young Harry in Paris, for example, he is so overwhelmed by his feelings that he is in a "Waterloo" bistro. When Bill arrives in Greece with his sailboat soon after, the song "Why it had to be me" fits perfectly.

Mamma Mia 2: Criticism

The second major force of the film, the ABBA Men co-produced Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, is the cast – especially the new one. Because old stars such as Streep, Brosnan and Co. are rather secondary in appearance. On the contrary, the musical focuses on young Donna and her turbulent lover.

The fact that you fall in droves does not surprise you: the British Lily James, 29, already in the series "Downton Abbey" and "Cinderella", the main character embodies so naturally and with a stunning smile that she wears the film easily. At the same time, Jeremy Irvine, Hugh Skinner and Josh Dylan are very different admirers.

Some minor weaknesses still appear in all this. It is unfortunate that the sequel has not been filmed again in Greece, but to a large extent in Croatia. It's pretty, of course, but it does not look like Greece – it's exactly what this big production with details like that probably does not take off.

Strangely, Amanda Seyfried, who in the first part convinced Streep, can now The girl does not always give the necessary depth. There are other quiet and melancholy moments, of which there is more this time. For example, when Brosnan quietly sings "S.O.S" and sadly asks "How can I try to keep going?", Some viewers must surely swallow.

But do not worry, the tone of "Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again" is light and lively and keeps it about two hours away from the final. Of course, everything is together for the expected happy ending – to which Cher, himself an Oscar winner, appears and, in a charming way, "Fernando" sings
