Nancy Sinatra died at the age of 101

The first wife of American singer Frank Sinatra, Nancy Sinatra, dies at the age of 101 years. "She fought to stay on Earth, but she was beaten by the weather," wrote the daughter of both, Nancy Sinatra Junior, on her website. His mother died "peacefully" on Friday night.

First musical encounter

At the age of 17, Nancy Barbato met Frank Sinatra at a manicure on the beach in the American city of Jersey in the summer of 1934. On the website, his daughter writes that Frank, then only a few years old, approached with his ukulele and played him something.

Five years later, they married and moved to New York, where Nancy worked as a secretary. They have three children together. In 1950, the relationship collapsed when her husband's affair with American actress Ava Gardner went public. Frank Sinatra is married several times in the following decades – first his old Gardner affair, then actress Mia Farrow and later model Barbara Marx.

With his now-deceased ex-wife, Frank Sinatra maintained good relations until his death in 1998, as reported by the New York Times.
