What could soften the day even more in the summer than an unforeseen tax refund? This must have been thought of by crooks who are currently trying to attract a subtle phishing campaign into a clbadic phishing trap.
Fraud on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Finance: Phishing e-mails are currently in circulation, claiming that the recipient would receive a tax refund. In the e-mail with the subject "your tax refund", everything seems as if the recipient should receive a refund of tax, but the account information filed with the tax office is wrong or outdated. Therefore, it is now time to register briefly with the Federal Tax Department's "Tax Rebate Portal" and to deposit correct bank details. Behind it is an attempt at fraud, now clarifies the Federal Ministry of Finance itself and warns users to follow the instructions in the e-mail.
This e-mail attracts inexperienced users into the trap
The phishing e-mail is as follows (error thus taken from the mail):
"We inform you that we have failed in our attempt to refund the account we know, please log in to your tax return portal to manually process the refund, during the process you can receive it from your part update the account information filed.
Payment date: June 30, 2018
Invoice number: BMF / 91H0091 / AT412
Amount: EUR 1,850.05
NOTE: This e-mail is the official billing document for this refund. "
The Federal Ministry of Finance warns against
The Federal Ministry of Finance now warns against any reaction to such e-mails or similar messages. "Tax refunds should not be requested via email, so do not open the link in the email and do not enter your account information or other personal informations!" Delete e-mails! "www.bundesfinanzministerium.de.

Users who have already fallen for such a request should, according to the ministry, inform their bank account holder accordingly. It is well known as a large-scale phishing fraud, which has been mbad-mailed in recent days and warn of other portals.
