The wanderlust of the Austrians is uninterrupted, per person should be spent according to a survey 1,100 euros for the summer holidays. "Unlike the previous year, travelers are increasingly resorting to what's called paid leave and less to their savings in terms of funding," says Erste Bank. And: More and more Austrians are hitting for family and friends.

In order to pay for the holidays, now ask 9% of people polled for their environment for financial support, according to a survey released Monday. In the survey of the previous year, it was only 4%. 56% of Austrians use summer savings to save, compared to 77% in 2017. More than a third (2017: 27%) financed the trip since the 14th salary, writes Erste Bank. For the survey, 500 people were interviewed by phone on the planned summer holidays. The results are representative of the Austrian population over 14 years old.

In Austria, the Austrians remain largely loyal to cash: "According to our latest Integral survey, Austrians prefer to pay cash, then ATM and ATM credit card," said Ertan Piskin, head of the card sector in Erste Bank. These have grown in popularity compared to the previous year.

60% would change money before the holidays, a quarter want to withdraw money at the destination. "Exchange offices in holiday destinations usually charge a lower price and higher expenses," the bank said. It is therefore advisable to inquire about the exchange rate and the possible fluctuations before going on vacation.

The GeoControl function, which domestic banks introduced about three and a half years ago, is still unknown to many. It is intended to prevent the reading and copying of the ATM magnetic tape. Only 36 percent of respondents know it. "Despite the low profile of GeoControl, the security function is fulfilling its role, and since its launch in December 2015, the number of skim cases has been significantly reduced."
