It is likely to be one of those unwritten rules in the scripting section: when you tell historical material, it's especially dark and dark. The plot is quickly told: In a quarter of the Spanish port city of Seville in 1597 the plague breaks out, the neighborhood is cordoned off and guarded, orphans have to bring food and drink to the sick. 500 kilometers further, in the city of Toledo, lives hidden the former soldier and heretic Mateo Núñez. An acquaintance of an old friend, who is now dead, finds him in hiding and asks him to go get the son of his 15-year-old friend in the contaminated city.
Almost a bit like "The Perfume"
The "Pest" decor vaguely recalls the adaptation of Patrick Süskind's clbadic "The Perfume" because of the prodigal son's character. However, the series is not based on any literary material, it has nothing to do with the novel of the same name of Albert Camus, as is badumed first. For experienced serialists, perhaps saturated with American and North-European material, it may be exciting to see a Spanish original with English subtitles.
